Clara Mary Macke

Clara 'Sis' Macke, 96, of Leopold passed away April 30, 2022. She was born Oct 18, 1925, in Glennon, daughter of Robert William and Clara Lucy (DeBrock) Jansen. She married Lawrence Joseph Macke on Jan 23, 1946. She is survived by her children, Norma Jean 'Jeanne' Greene, Marilyn (Mike) Jansen, Monica Macke, Gerard (Eleanor) Macke, Pauline 'Susie' Macke and daughter-in-law Janie Macke, She is survived by 10 grandchildren: Shawne Holmes, Joseph (Marsha) Greene, Courtney (Jeff) Willey, Sara (Phillip) Perry, Kristy (Steve) Branson, Ryan (Ellen) Macke, Barbara Schroeppel, Kelly (Stuart) Macke, Justin (Sophie) Mackey, and Sherry (Michael) Woods. There are 21 great-grandchildren: Jacob Macke; Jenna and Lukas Greene; Theodore, Sebastian and Guinevere Willey; Landon and Aerielle Perry; Shiloh, Sydney, Fender, Vox and Shaw Branson; Ryan, Hayley, Makayla and Peyton Macke; James and George Mackey, Token Brown; and Tyler Schroeppel. She is also survived by a brother, Arnold (Mary) Jansen, sisters, Rose Macke and Sister Mary Jane Jansen, brother-in-law Marvin Surface, sister-in-law Karen Jansen and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sons Ralph and Harold Macke, son-in-law Roy Greene, grandson Craig Jansen, and great-granddaughter Jessica Jones. Also preceding her in death are: Adeline (Irvin) VandeVen, Dorothy (Louis) Hinkebein, Agnes (Leo) Broshuis, Ben Macke, Loretta (Herb) Blattel, Robert Jansen, Nettie Surface. Clara's first loves were Jesus and her family. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Leopold. She treasured her work as Eucharistic Minister. She was known to many as Grandma Sis and loved to feed anyone around. Numerous pots of chili were served about midnight after Saturday night dances. Her breakfasts made getting up early worthwhile. She enjoyed supplying dumplings and homemade cookies to anyone--family, friends, and visitors. Clara's grandchildren remember that Grandma Sis was always generous with her hugs and laughs. She was so humble but had so much wisdom and all who knew her benefitted from it. She was the first to offer a helping hand to anyone who needed one and was admired by friends and family for her kind and compassionate spirit. Grandma applied this patience, humility, and compassion to any work in front of her. We have memories of her at the stove and at the sink, at the bedsides of the sick, working at the store, or running errands - always doing what had to be done with a smile on her face. Grandma had many challenges and difficulties in her life, much sadness and hardship to endure, yet by the grace of God, she was a role model for all who were able to witness her gentle, kind, generous, and loving spirit. Visitation will be at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill from 4-8 on Thursday. Fr. Michael Casteel will be the celebrant at the funeral at 10am on Friday at St. John Catholic Church in Leopold with burial in the church cemetery.
