Helen Louise Vandeven

Helen Louise Vandeven, 91, of Marble Hill, Missouri died Monday, April 6, 2026 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born March 21, 1935 in Kelso, MO to the late Paul Joseph and Anna Helen Scherer Glastetter. She and Alvin Bernard Vandeven were married August 8, 1953 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso. Together they worked the family farm for 40 plus years. Alvin preceded her in death on June 28, 1996. Helen continued a cattle and hay farming operation for an additional ten years. Helen was a dedicated member of St. John Catholic Church in Leopold, Missouri where she also served with the St. Anne Ladies Sodality. She began quilting at the age of 13 with her mother and continued to do so on her own and with the church quilting ladies for 75 more years. Helen gifted quilts to her family for every occasion. She donated several to raffles including ones to fund the St. John prayer garden. She won several ribbons at the SEMO District Fair for Best of Show Hand Quilted. She donated several quilts to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Survivors include a daughter, Elaine Hinkebein of Benton, KY; Seven Sons, Alvin (Betty) Vandeven, Jr. of Chaffee, MO, John (Mary) Vandeven, Gary (Kim) Vandeven, Larry Vandeven, Gerard Vandeven, Edward (Lori) Vandeven all of Marble Hill, MO, Ronald (Herman Gaffney) Vandeven of Canton, OH; a Daughter-in-law, Rhonda Vandeven of Marble Hill, MO; honorary son, Larry (Carol) VanGennip of Marble Hill; Eighteen grandchildren, Renee Laster, Jeremy Vandeven, Jennifer Lynn, Melanie Ledford, Amanda Reed, Lacy Riddle, Amy Jansen, John David Vandeven, Kelly Burger, Michael Vandeven, Wendy McCall, Shelby Long, Jessica O'Guin, Emily Vandeven, Dillan Vandeven, Whitney Burton, Gavin Vandeven, Alexis Smith;, along with 41 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Coletta Neff of Waterloo IL and Bertha Seyer of Dutchtown. In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Juli Ann Vandeven; a son-in-law Charlie Hinkebein; four brothers, William, Louis, Sylvester and John Glastetter; three sisters, Delphine Backfisch, Aurelia Muster and Rita Kluesner. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, April 10, 2026 at St. John's Catholic Church in Leopold, MO with parish prayers at 7 pm followed by a K of C Rosary. A Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am Saturday, April 11, 2026 at St. John's Catholic Church in Leopold, MO with the Father Vincent Joseph VC officiating.
