Sunday, March 28, 1920 to Wednesday, January 30, 2008 A Resident of Jackson, MO Visitation Services will be held on Friday, February 01, 2008 at 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Liley Funeral Home in Patton, MO Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 02, 2008 at 10:00 AM at the Liley Funeral Home in Patton, MO The Final Resting Place is at the Crossroads Cemetery near Sedgewickville, MO Hubert Harrison Clayton, age 87, of Jackson, MO, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at the Fountain Bleau Lodge in Cape Girardeau. He was born March 28, 1920 at Wappapello, MO, son of Charles Henry and Frances Elizabeth Sweet Clayton. He and Ruby Jewel Horn were married Dec. 22, 1939 at Perryville, MO and she died April 30, 2005. Mr. Clayton was a farmer, loved the great outdoors, a past member of the NRA, and a member of the Crossroads United Methodist Church near Sedgewickville, MO. Survivors include; one son, Charles Clayton, O Kean, AR, three daughters; Betty Nielson, Sedgewickville, Barbara Michelson, Millersville, Margaret Sides, Jackson, a half brother, James Denton of Marble Hill, one half sister, Myrtle Keltie of Alabama, fourteen grandchildren and twenty seven great grandchildren. Preceding him in death was his parents, one brother, a half brother, several step brothers, three sisters and several step sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to the Crossroads Methodist Church. Friends may call Friday, February 1, 2008 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Liley Funeral Home in Patton. Funeral Services will be Saturday at 10:00 AM at the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Anthony Stewart and Rev. Howard Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Crossroads Church Cemetery. To my Uncle Hubert's family: I want you all to know Mom and I are thinking of you at this difficult time. Mom would sure like to be there, but travel is difficult for her now and she's just gotten over a virus. Uncle Hubert and Aunt Ruby were special people and some of our favorite folks to visit when we Keltie kids were growing up. Their home was always warm and welcoming, and that made it a great place to gather. Not to mention the frseh garden produce and your Mom's good cooking! I am also remembering in my adult life that one time I spent the night in their home with at least one of my sisters. We were in the area for another funeral, I believe, and your folks offered us a place to stay. Your Dad opened up the Murphy bed for us and your Mom made sure we had sheets and towels and anything else we'd need. They knew how to do hospitality country-style, which is the best of all, in my opinion. I do remember that early the next morning, Brenda and I got up and watched the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana on your folks' TV, so that is how long ago it was. Just wanted you to know we love you and will be praying for you at this time. Mom thought a lot of her brother Hubert and her sister-in-law Ruby.
