He was born March 3, 1935 in Mount Vernon, IL; son of Homer Francis and Geneva Mae (Jenkins) Robbins Chamness. He married Letha Marie Skaggs on June 28, 1959 and their marriage of more than 54 years produced three sons who along with Letha survive Gregory Lee (Mona) Chamness of Millersville; Bryan Charles Chamness of Oak Ridge, MO; and Leslie Patrick (Hana) Chamness of Seoul, South Korea. Other survivors include brother, Pastor John I (Grace) Chamness of Perryville; 6 half-brothers and sisters variously of Illinois and Texas step brothers Rev. Bobby (Edna) Robbins of Grassy and William J "Bill" (Wendy) Robbins of Grassy, grandchildren Rocky Chamness and Carmen Chamness of GA; Britney Slinkard, Gregory Scott Chamness, of Oak Ridge, Jacob L. Chamness, Melinda Chamness and Brook Jones of Greenville, IL a large number of nephews, nieces and other friends, relatives and acquaintance. Marshall had a distinguished career serving in the United States Navy from December 7, 1953 to November 27, 1963. He was honored on several occasions for his meritorious service. He served in continuous government employment stationed at various Air, Army, and Naval bases around the country until his retirement from government service in 1990. Both he and his wife, Letha Marie, became full members of the First Assembly of God, 1324 W Grand Ave, Perryville, MO 63775 November 22, 1998 where this once avowed "agnostic" fell in love with the Lord Jesus Christ and served him there as a faithful Christian church member, usher, secretary/treasurer, board-member and all around handy-man. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father William Jasper Robbins, brothers, Homer F. Chamness and Burnell Eugene Chamness, sister Mrs. Myrtle Irene (Wyatt) Bradley, step brothers James Robbins and Rev. Gene Robbins, step sisters Opal Frymire and Pauline Dickerson. Friends and family may call at the Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill on Thursday, January 9, 2014 from 8:30 to 10:00 AM at the Liley Funeral Home. Celebration of Life services officiated by Rev. Dr. John I Chamness Thursday at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Grassy Friendship Cemetery.
