Gene Irven Robbins, age 78, of Grassy, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 11, 2011. He was born October 1, 1933 at Grassy, MO, son of Jasper and Iva James Robbins. He first married Laverne "Butch" Barton on Oct. 15, 1953 and she passed away on January 3, 2005. He then married Joyce Ann Hancock on July 16, 2010. Gene was a member of the Cottage of Grace General Baptist Church and former pastor there, a member of the Masonic Lodge #440, VFW Post 5900, worked as a logger all of his life and pastored several churches in the area since 1973. Survivors include his wife, Joyce of Grassy; four daughters; Barbara Bennett, Glen Allen, MO, Susan Fisher, Linda Roark and Judy Roark all of Grassy; a step daughter, Kimberly Terry of Lebanon, TN; four brothers, Rev. Bobby Robbins, Bill Robbins both of Grassy, Marshall Chamness and Rev. John Chamness; seven grandchildren and two step grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, James Robbins, Burnell Chamness and Homer Chamness, four sisters, an infant, Pauline Dickerson, Opal Frymire, M. Irene Bradley. Visitation will be Thursday, October 13, 2011 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Liley Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Friday at 10:00 AM at the funeral home with the Rev. John Chamness officiating. Burial will follow in the Grassy Friendship Cemetery, with full military honors provided by the VFW Post #5900. Please accept our deepest sympathy. Gene and his family our in our prayers. So sad to read of the passing of Gene. I will miss him...many fond childhood memories of the Robbins family. A Very Sad Day. I am so sorry for the families loss, Gene was a good friend and a wonderful role model. He was there for me anytime I needed a friend and Pastor My condolences and prayers go out for the whole family. Fond memories will kept him close to your heart at all times.
