Tuesday, March 29, 1938 to Friday, May 18, 2012 A Resident of Glen Allen, MO Visitation Services will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill, MO Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 25, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill, MO The Final Resting Place is at the Baker Cemetery near Marble Hill, MO Robert Lewis VanGennip, 74, of Glen Allen, MO died May 18, 2012 at the home of his daughter. He was born March 29, 1938 near Advance, son of Joseph and Bertie (Mansker) VanGennip. He and Hazel Laverne Christy were married June 16, 1956. She preceded him in death in 2007. He worked for Skelgas and Amoco in St. Louis before moving to Glen Allen. He was the owner of VanGennip Oil Company before retiring in 2002. He served his country proudly in the United States Army. Survivors include his daughter, son-in-law, Christy and Scott, grandchildren, Bennett and Abigail Roberts of Arnold, MO; sister, Imogene (Norman) VanGennip of Marble Hill; and his very special friend Wanda McGuire. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Randy Lee VanGennip. Visitation will be Thursday May 24th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Liley Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Friday May 25th at 10:00 AM at Liley Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred Ritter officiating. Burial will follow at Baker Cemetery. Christy, everyone loved your dad.... He will be sadly missed !!!!! Christy I m sending you hug hugs hugs. It was so shocking to hear of your dad's passing. He never saw me but what he greeted me with a smile and news of you. He was a very special man, that I am sure you already know. He will be very missed in this community. May God wrap His Holy Spirit around you and give you comfort as only He can. My love to you always. Bob was a friend and classmate in Old Lutesville High. We send condolences. It was always a pleasure to see Bob. My deepest condolences on the loss your such a dear man. I know my children was very fond of Bob. May God keep you in this time of loss. My deepest sympathies in the loss of your father. I will always remember him for his smile, quick wit and deep love of his grandchildren. What an amazing man to have as a Father! My girlfriend knew Bob when she grew up in Marble Hill and was friends with Christy, and remembered him very fondly. She hadn't seen him in decades, and yet when she heard the news of his passing, she burst into tears with grief. She told me of his kindness and warmth and how wonderful he was. I never met the man myself, but I was moved that someone from so long ago in her life could have touched her so deeply that news of his loss could affect her so much. I think that's one of the best testaments of a man's life: That those whose lives he touched, in big ways and in small, remember him with such affection and love. That's a life well lived. May we all have such good fortune.
