Saturday, January 05, 1907 to Wednesday, February 16, 2011 A Resident of Sedgewickville, MO Visitation Services will be held on Friday, February 18, 2011 at 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill, MO Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill, MO The Final Resting Place is at the Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery near Marble Hill, MO Verdetta Hahn Seabaugh departed this life on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at the age of 104. She was born on January 5, 1907 in rural Bollinger County to E. H. and Lucretia Slinkard Conner. Verdetta and Lester Hahn were united in marriage on February 7, 1930. He passed away on February 7, 1975. Verdetta and Herbert Seabaugh married on February 14, 1978. He passed away on October 29, 1986. Verdetta was a retired teacher. She began her career in the rural one room schools of Bollinger County in 1924 and finished the last 14 years of her teaching career at Woodland R4, retiring in 1972. In 1972 she was named as one of the outstanding teachers of America. Verdetta was a member of the Marble Hill United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was a member of Beta Gamma, a chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, a sorority for women educators. Verdetta was also a member of the Bollinger County Historical Society, Missouri State Historical Society, Missouri Retired Teachers Association and the area Retired Teachers Association. She was also a former Rebekah. She is survived by two children, Carol and husband, Bob Angle of St. Louis and Gary and wife, Louise Hahn of Marble Hill and a daughter-in-law, June Hahn of Frisco, Texas. Also, two step-daughters, Virginia and husband, Robert Dolle of Cape Girardeau and JoAnn and husband, Ronald Ward of Scott City. She is survived by five grandchildren and five step-grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. Verdetta was preceded in death by one son, David E Hahn, her parents, one brother, Rev. Howard Conner, one sister, Norma Nipper. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church of Marble Hill. Visitation will be Friday February 18, 2011 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill. Funeral services will be held at Marble Hill United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Janet Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery near Marble Hill. I taught with Verdetta for 3 years, my first years teaching. She was a wonderful mentor and friend. My condolences to her family. A life well lived. My condolences for your loss. Through my relationship with Freeda Huskey, I had known of Verdetta for years, but I was only personally acquainted during the last years in her life. On several occasions, she brightened my day when I (making ministry visits) would stop in to see how she was doing. She was a source of inspiration as she shared stories of her purposeful life. Verdetta's faith in Christ was very obvious and strong. When I would pray with her, she would ask me not to pray that she would get better, but that she would get to leave this world. She had lived a rich life and she felt that it was past due for her to graduate. As Verdetta spoke of this to me one day, I told her that I could understand her desire to depart, but I also reminded her that she was still touching lives everyday. Indeed, as long as she was with us, she was truly a beautiful rose in a world filled with thorns. I am happy for her, but I am sad for me; for those of you who knew her as your family; and for all those whose lives were made better by the presence of Verdetta. May God bless you, especially Gary and Louise as you take comfort in the hope of our Savior, and in the hope of a coming day when parted loved ones are together forever with Him! Gary & Louise, What a wonderful lady your Mother was! At 104 she sure did go through some changes in her life. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.
