George N. Chapman

George Chapman, 92, of Sedgewickville, MO passed away at his home on Sunday, December 7, 2025. George was born May 5, 1933, in St. Louis, MO to the late Cecil and Julia Loretta Baron Chapman. He and Elisabeth Reibl were married October 1, 1987. George enlisted in the United States Navy on the 31st of May 1951, he honorably served for four years with deployments on aircraft carriers. Upon his honorable discharge on the 17 of May 1955 he began a career with the IBEW Local 1 in St. Louis where he worked on many major construction projects throughout Missouri. As a member of the Road Runners, he participated in numerous marathons. In addition to running, George also enjoyed traveling. He was a member of Mason Lodge 670, the Eastern Star, the VFW and Whitewater Presbyterian Church and was a dedicated donor for the American Red Cross blood drives. One of George’s favorite activities was spending time with his grandchildren at the small summer house in Arcadia Valley. He enjoyed a good round of golf and walked 18 holes just a few short months ago. His family, grandkids great and great great grandkids were his delight in life always bringing a broad smile to his face. George never met a stranger and could find the good and bright side of anyone he met. His last word to all he knew was “God be with you”. George is survived by his wife of 38 years Elisabeth, sons Marcus (Gloria), Jim (Jody), John, Carolyn (Rick) and Dawn (Jim), along with a brother Robert Chapman, 10 grandchildren 5 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by two brothers, Cecil and John Chapman. A visitation for George will be held at the Whitewater Presbyterian Church on Friday, December 12, 2025, from 10 am to 1pm. Members of Masonic Lodge 670 will perform a Masonic service beginning at 12:40. Funeral services will begin at 1 pm at the church with Charles Mangles officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
