Saturday, March 04, 1916 to Sunday, October 14, 2007 A Resident of Blytheville, Ark Visitation Services will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2007 at 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Liley Funeral Home in Patton, MO Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2007 at 1:00 PM at the Liley Funeral Home in Patton, MO The Final Resting Place is at the Patton Cemetery near Patton, MO Paul Crawford Shirley, 91 years old, of Blytheville, Ark., and formerly of Patton, MO, died Sunday, October 14, 2007 at the St. Bernard's Hospital in Jonesboro, Ark. He was born March 4, 1916 at Patton, MO, son of Joseph J. and Cora E. Linton Shirley. He and Pauline Kaiser were married August 4, 1943. Mr. Shirley began his thirty year military career joining the Missouri National Guard. Paul's Guard Unit was activated and soon thereafter he transferred to the "brown shoe" Air Force when the Army Air Corp was born. His career was highlighted by numerous historical events such as the Berlin Airlift and the Cuban Missile Crisis. The last thirteen years of his career he was assigned to the Strategic Air Command as a navigator/bombardier. He retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel in 1963. Survivors include; his wife, Pauline, three sons, Peter K. (Judy) Shirley of Mountain View, Ark, Patrick G. Shirley of Castro Valley, CA, Capt. Paul C. (Beverly) Shirley Jr. of Dayton, OH, two daughters, Pam M. (Larry) Capps of Jefferson, TX, Phyllis S. (Norbert) Angell of Shawnee, KS, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, four brothers, four sisters and one granddaughter Bess Catherine Shirley. Friends may call at the Liley Funeral Home in Patton Thursday, October 18, 2007 from 11:00 to 1:00 PM. Funeral Services will be Thursday, at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Fred Ritter officiating. Burial will follow in the Patton Cemetery in Patton, MO. I am so sorry for your loss. I was a very good friend of Jackie's and I remember your mother very fondly. Jackie can take care of her now. My deepest regrets, Trina (Peck) Haggerty Jackie and I went to high school together. I live in Virginia now and was thinking of what happened to her all of those years ago. I just typed in her name and found out about her mom. I really hated to hear this. At least they can be together now. My Grandmother's memory will carry on in our family and she is greatly missed.
