Tuesday, July 31, 1928 to Thursday, April 07, 2011 A Resident of Jackson, MO Visitation Services will be held on Saturday, April 09, 2011 at 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Liley Funeral Home in Patton, MO Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Liley Funeral Home in Patton, MO The Final Resting Place is at the Patton Cemetery near Patton, MO Truman "Jack" Conrad, age 82, of Jackson, MO; passed away Thursday, April 7, 2011 at the Jackson Manor in Jackson, MO. He was born July 31, 1928 at Sedgewickville, MO; son of L. Vern "Coonie" and Naomi Conrad. He and Marie Hartle were married June 30, 1969. Growing up in a small country town Jack's mother would ask him to go and kill a chicken for Sunday dinner, and he would take his shotgun with him to the chicken coop and pick out a chicken and would kill only the chicken he picked out with the shotgun. He attended the Sedgewickville and Patton Schools where he participated in every sport and graduated from Patton School. As a young man during WWII when ammunition was scarce, his father would only give him three shells, he would go out and kill either three rabbits or three squirrels or some of each. In 1940 he moved to Cape Girardeau and worked for the Florshiem Shoe Factory for several years. He later became a Licensed Tugboat Captain, and worked for the MO Dry Docks for forty years until he retired. He was a licensed gun smith for many years traveling all over the US with his associate J. D. King. They attended several gun show in several states before his health forced him to stop traveling. Many people in the area bought, traded, or had Jack to repair their guns. He was also an accomplished country musician playing the fiddle and the dobro along with his brothers at several dances and picnics. He was a member of the Lion's Club, NRA and Patton Presbyterian Church. Survivors include; his wife Marie of Jackson; children, Arthur (Terri) Hartle of Frisco, TX, Bill (Karen) Hartle of Marquand; Phyllis (Junior) Cook of Marble Hill; Mark Conrad state of Ohio; Shirley Rogers of Farmington; Sheila Beussink of Iowa City Iowa; two brothers, Harold "Sam" (Mildred) Conrad of Cape Girardeau, MO; Mark (Bonnie) Conrad of Opatka, FL; one sister June Borgfield of Cape Girardeau; fifteen grandchildren and ten great- grandchildren. Preceding him in death was his parents, five brothers, L.V. Jr., Wilbur (Chub), Jerry, Paul (Diz), Pat, one sister Muriel Bollinger and three grandchildren. Visitation will be Saturday, April 9, 2011 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Liley Funeral Home in Patton. Funeral Services will be Sunday at 1:00 PM at the Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Nancy Gillard officiating. Burial will follow in the Patton Cemetery. You have been gone a year, Dad but it feels like forever. It is a comforting thought that you have peace now.
